The Sun Catcher Water Heating System

The NZ Solar glass evacuated heat tubes can be configured in different ways:

Pumped System:

The water is heated by the glass evacuated tubes and is gently pumped to a water cylinder situated in the house e.g. in a cupboard.

This is the most efficient NZ Solar hot water heating system. By storing the hot water in a cylinder inside the house there is less heat loss and the pump only uses the energy equivalent to that of a 60watt light bulb. The pump only works intermittently making this method superior. This system now utilises the most efficient method of heat collection and the most efficient method of storing the water once heated.

Thermo System:

This is when the hot water storage tank is situated above the glass evacuated heat tubes in the ceiling cavity of the house. The rise in water temperature causes the water to rise naturally to the storage tank in an unassisted manner, no need for water pumps or electricity to circulate the water.

Direct System:

The glass evacuated heat tubes are connected directly to the tank that is also situated on the roof above the tubes. The tubes are connected via a long lasting silicone connections system.

 

New and Retro Fitted Pumped Systems

The power of the sun is harnessed in the glass-evacuated tubes, which then heat the super efficient manifold, storing the captured heat. When the water in the manifold reaches eight degrees Celsius above the temperature of the water in the storage cylinder the microcomputer automatic controller starts a small pump, which is mentioned above.

This pump runs circulating the water until the temperature in the manifold is down to 3 degrees above the temperature in the water storage cylinder. The pump then stops automatically until required again: simple, efficient and effective!

If the water temperature falls to five degrees in the winter the pump automatically starts to circulate the water. This has the effect of preventing the water freezing.

The microcomputer controller can also be set to start an electric element in the hot water cylinder to provide a failsafe mechanism ensuring a constant supply of hot water even during the worst of weather conditions.

All of this shows on the digital readout of the computer, total control for the user and completely maintenance free.
